Papa, How Much Do You Make an Hour?
A boy asks his dad a simple question.
SON: “Daddy, can I ask you something?”
DAD: “Yeah, sure. What is it?”
SON: “How much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “That’s none of your business. Why would you ask something like that?”
SON: “I just want to know. Please tell me — how much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “Well, if you must know, I make $100 an hour.”
SON: “Oh…” (head down).
SON: “Daddy, may I borrow $50?”
The father was furious.
DAD: “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow money for some silly toy or some other nonsense, then march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you’re being so selfish. I work hard every day, and this kind of childish behavior isn’t acceptable.”
The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.
The man sat down, growing even angrier about the boy’s questions. How dare he ask such things just to get some money?
After about an hour, the man began to calm down and started to think:
Maybe there was something the boy really needed to buy with that $50. After all, he didn’t ask for money very often.
