Happiness, as I see it today, is a result of inner peace. In Southeast Asia, I saw happiness on the poorest streets, talking to street food sellers who always greeted me with humble smiles. I witnessed people living simple lives, gathering, laughing, and chatting together while sipping tea. When I asked a gentleman in his sixties how he could be happy despite having almost nothing, he smiled, pointed to his heart and then to his mind, and said, “When you open your heart to life, you will reach a peace of mind and when you have inner peace, happiness reveals itself to you.” We often stretch ourselves and try to change who we are to find happiness when it’s just waiting for us the next door.
